Classroom hours

The school day is eight hours of instruction with a 30-minute lunch and three 10-minute breaks.

  • Sacramento, San Diego, Phoenix, Fresno, and Salt Lake City: 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
  • Riverside: 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Classroom materials

Order your materials at least 30 days before your first semester class starts — you'll dodge back-orders, express shipping charges, and last-minute cramming. Suggested vendors include Delmar Cengage Learning (1-888-685-8838), Building Tech Bookstore (1-800-275-2665, code "WET101" for a WECA discount), Amazon, and Mike Holt.

Curriculum evolves. For the current materials list for your class, call (877) 444-9322.

Computer learning centers

WECA training facilities have computer learning centers for current apprentices and students. Access is by appointment — call to schedule.

Health benefits (California Commercial apprentices)

WECA offers medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance benefits to commercial electrical apprentices indentured in a WECA California apprenticeship program — and their families. Coverage runs through Anthem Blue Cross (medical, dental PPO, and vision PPO), with acupuncture and chiropractic plans available.

Dependent coverage costs $125–$185/month (subject to change), due by the 25th of each month prior to coverage. Send enrollment or change forms to the WECA Sacramento office. Questions? Call the WECA Insurance Administrator at (916) 453-0112 ext. 117.

Unemployment benefits during class

Apprentices and trainees enrolled in a state-approved apprenticeship program are eligible for EDD unemployment benefits while attending mandatory training. Find details in the Resource Library.
