A real voice for the merit shop
Merit shop contractors face a political system where union influence shapes who gets to compete for public work. WECA's Government Relations team fights back — in Sacramento, in Washington, and in your county.
What the program does
- Dedicated representation at the national, state, and local levels, focused on the issues that affect your ability to compete — prevailing wage policy, apprenticeship standards, and procurement rules.
- PLA defense. Proactive strategies and public efforts against union-only Project Labor Agreements, and support for fair and open competition legislation.
- Direct access. Webinar events where you can put your questions straight to WECA's Government Relations Director.
- Political intelligence. The WECA Political Update newsletter tracks ballot measures, PAGA litigation, public works classifications, and the fights that hit your bid margins — before they hit them.
The WECA Political Action Committee
WECA-PAC works with electrical contractors to protect their rights and counter the influence of labor unions and associated special interest groups in California politics. Through coordinated effort, the goal is simple: make doing business in California fair and profitable again.

Coalition partners
